Our Vision and History
Our vision was to develop the Nantucket Shooting Park, a sport-shooting facility on Nantucket that would provide shooters with a safe, clean, and well-controlled environment.
The project began as a grassroots effort in 2003 and has since gained broad support throughout the community. The Nantucket Hunting Association (NHA) received Town voter approval and secured a lease for a 27-acre, Town-owned parcel at 1 Shadbush Road to develop the facility. Due to endangered species mitigation requirements, development was ultimately limited to nine acres.
In March 2024, Town officials informed the NHA that, because of a shortage of Town-owned land suitable for a much-needed new Department of Public Works (DPW) complex—as well as other future municipal needs—the Shadbush Road property had been selected as the site for the new DPW facility.
Recognizing the ongoing effort and need for a shooting facility on Nantucket, the Town offered a portion of the parcel for development of a scaled-down version of the Nantucket Shooting Park.
